Perfect Generation & Success
Perfect Generation & Thoughts On Success

1996 - 2000 were great years.. The US economy was booming, MTV played music videos, and I was in Perfect Generation. Ever since I can remember I have had the dream of performing at the Huntridge Theater in Las Vegas. I have always had the dream of standing on the same stage as Johnny Cash, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Sinatra and all of the greats. In 1998 I had that opportunity.. Not once, but four different times. I talk about this is greater detail in my book, "The Air In My Lungs" which is being edited right now and will be available soon. The point is - dreams do come true, and the impossible is only as far away as you want it to be.
Me!.. Last Chance Tour.. Provo Utah 2006
I will post a few Perfect Generation songs tomorrow..
I remember during the Summer of 2000 I was in Cedar City.. I was walking down the street on my way to meet a friend at a restaurant. There was a kid walking towards me, he was around my age. He was smoking a cigarette and he walked with a bit of a strut. As he passed me he stared at me for a bit. I figured that he was going to pick a fight or even rob me.. (irrational thinking, I know) As he passed he said, "HEY".. I responded in a similar tone, "Hey".. He turned around and started walking towards me again.. "Aren't you in that one band?", he asked.. Thinking to myself, I pondered how he could possibly know who I am.. "Don't you sing that song Eat Your Children?".. "yeah", I replied -"its a metaphor, but yeah that's me".. I don't remember exactly what he said after that, but I do remember he hugged me and told me I was "da man".. I was 17 years old.. I wasn't use to this kind of attention.. I was excited that someone outside of Las Vegas knew who I was..My brother was in the LDS Missionary Training Center a few years back.. Someone saw his name tag and that his last name is Evans. This kid ran up to him and asked, "Isn't your brother the once who sang "Eat Your Children"..?
Its funny how a 15 year old kid can write a song about the world, and how the media eats at us one by one, especially our youth.. That same kid can give this song a name that will grab attention i.e. "Eat Your Children" and it will be remembered.. When that song was written we didn't have a recording budget, we didn't have any kind of marketing budget.. It was all done with a few hundred dollars.. The "success" that I found whilst in Perfect Generation has carried my dreams until today.. I am now in the process of creating new dreams and making new memories.. The old ones will fade away one day.. They always do.
True, I haven't appeared on MTV, I have only had my songs on a few radio stations.. True, your best friend probably has no idea who I am.. I guess its all in how we define success and happiness.. and as of November 26th, 2007 at 4:28pm, I am successful and I am happy.
