My friend..

If you get a chance, check out the music of my pal Cary Judd..

Cary is a very talented musician and a very funny person.  Some of the funniest experiences of my life have taken place with Cary.  I think in a previous life Cary and I were Lewis and Clark, Batman and Robin, Bert and Ernie, Laverne and Shirley, Calvin and Hobbes, Frodo and Sam, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, George Washington and John Adams, or even the Wright Brothers.

I truly believe that Cary will be one of those guys to remember his roots, no matter where is career takes him.  He is the kind of musician that approaches his fans after the show and asks, "where are we all hanging out tonight?"..

Check out his music, you will be glad you did.

The Air In My Lungs..

Poison.

Poison can be found in different forms.  Bleach can be poisonous if ingested.  Certain plants like Poison Ivy have poisonous effects to the human body.  Arsenic is defiantly a deadly poison.  I could continue with my list of poisons, but I think you've got the picture.

Most poisons have a an antidote which if taken within a certain time frame will reduce or eliminate the effects of the poison.

I am nauseated as I type this, forgive me if I seem scatter brained.

The type of poison that I have come in contact with cannot be cured by a pill or ointment.  The type of poison I have been effected by is not necessarily damaging to the body.  The type of poison that I have seen far to many people infected with cannot be cured by a doctor or with any prescription.

The poison that I am referring to, if not treated with precision and timing will effect your friends, family, neighbors and community.  This poison, if not cured, will damage your life and the lives of generations to come.

What is this poison?  For todays purposes I am going to call it "Dependence".

I would quote a certain politician right now, because he made a great speech earlier this year about dependence, but if I did I think 1/2 of  you would stop reading this blog immediately.  :)

In most cases, Dependence on the Government for Welfare and 'hand outs' is deteriorating to the person receiving the 'hand out' and it is deteriorating to our society..  Don't forget that I said, "In Most Cases"..  I am not saying "All of the time".. I am simply stating, "More often than not"..  Sure, we all need a quick "pick me up" every now and then.  It is possible that every single one of us may fall on hard times or become disabled.  If and when this day comes I say, May God Bless You and I hope you find a new job or get better soon..  There are defiantly circumstances where "help" is needed.

Dependence on "help" from others, as a crutch, is a poisonous thing.

Dependence robs families, communities and individuals from the GOOD that they would be able to produce if they weren't DEPENDENT.  When there is someone close to you, either a friend or family member, who is DEPENDENT on SOMEONE or SOMETHING it has a major influence on your life... and your being.

I am nauseous.

This effects of this poison have altered my path.. a bit.

The only cure for this poison is Education, Light and Knowledge.

I am done for now.

More later.

...and its all coming back to me.

Over the past several months I have been writing music for my next album.  There has been a larger than normal gap between this upcoming release and the album before it, "Allusions Within".  Ideally I would like to finish  the new album tomorrow and get it in stores and itunes by Tuesday.  However, there is a different feeling in the air with this one.  The level of precision and pride that I have taken with this album is different than any other project I have worked on.  I do not have an answer as to why this is.

As I finished typing the last paragraph a thought came to me. I just realized that the Perfect Generation album was originally released (nearly) 10 years ago.  PG released, "Thoughts of Today's Youth" right before I turned 16.  This August I will be 26, and my new album will be released before or right after my Birthday.

One of the things I love most about writing is that it forces me to look inward.  It forces me to think about my life and the various experiences that caused me to laugh, cry, smile or become angry.  The real magic happens when I can put an experience that I have had into a song and have it translate into the ears of my audience in an emotional / moving way.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Raising Emma.

I was in a writing meeting today with everyones favorite Probate Attorney, Robert Graham.  During our meeting we were reminiscing about the good 'ol days.  One of the things that came up was Raising Emma.  (While I was still performing in Perfect Generation I cowrote the musical Raising Emma.   Authors:  Robert Graham, Justin Evans, Charlie Melvin and Kennedy Lantz)

Raising Emma was my first attempt at writing a stage play.  It was honestly one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. We started writing it when I was 17 and it hit the stage when I was 18. Before Emma, the only real time I had spent on the stage was with Perfect Generation.  I'll be the first to admit that the first run through had a lot of mistakes, but hey - can you blame a kid for trying.

I sang the song, "Gossip" on stage and on the Soundtrack.

Brief Synopsis:
At the beginning of Raising Emma, the audience learns that Emma is a little girl who lost her father as the result of a farming accident. Emma's father, Ed, is now in heaven trying to learn how to be a guardian angel. Though he is sincere, it is painfully obvious to others that Ed is not the most talented "angel". He does, however, have more success in helping his widow and his daughter from afar.  Several years pass and despite Ed's greatest efforts, the clouds surrounding Emma continue to darken. Emma's mother is killed in a highway accident. She is killed while driving on Christmas Eve.  Mortified that somehow he has caused the loss of Emma's last surviving parent, Harry commits his life to raising his niece. Raising Emma traces the steps of Emma's life as she faces her hardships with courage and faith -- and a little help from afar.

Oh man! I am a terrible terrible blogger. It is amazing to me how well some people are at keeping up to date with their blogs. I know plenty of people who are much busier than I am who have amazing, compelling blogs.. My new goal.. be a better blogger..

Blogger = one who blogs.
